Noritake dinnerware has its roots dating back to 1876. Ichizaemon Morimura VI and his brother Toyo founded Morimura Gumi. Their intent was to establish an overseas trading company. By 1878, Toyo established a business in New York selling Japanese antiques and pottery. In 1881 they renamed the company, Morimura Brothers.
