While Schott Zwiesel Tritan Crystal, Riedel fine crystal and Lenox crystal glassware have all been thoroughly tested and are considered dishwasher safe you still run the risk of damaging your fine crystal wine glasses. The actual dishwasher action is not the problem, the problem is scratches or chips when your fine crystal comes in contact with other glassware, metalware or dinnerware.
If you run your crystal glassware in the dishwasher use a stemware rack or carefully place your crystal glassware in the dishwasher taking care none of your glassware will come in contact with the other items.
We recommend hand washing all crystal glasses in hot water using a small amount of liquid dishwashing detergent as soon as possible after use. In areas with “hard” water meaning water with a lot of minerals, over time you will see some cloudiness on your glasses. This is a build up of the minerals on the surface of the glass. To prevent the build up add some vinegar to your water when hand washing and even a little vinegar in your dishwasher helps keep you crystal sparkling.
When washing swing the faucet out of the way, and line the bottom of the sink with a rubber mat.
Soap residue on the glass is the biggest enemy of wine and will corrupt any wine regardless of the cost so thoroughly rinse your crystal glassware with warm water.
Dry with a soft microfiber cloth. When drying your crystal wine glasses do not twist at the stem, this is the weakest point on even the strongest wine glasses.
Never store your stemware upside down. The lip is a fragile part of the glass. Always allow air space around each piece of crystal when you store them. Glass expands in hot temperatures, extra air space eliminates the possibility of the crystal scratching because it has expanded and touched another piece.
