Plum Street Pottery focuses on providing what we call “artisan inspired” dinnerware. We have always admired the skill and imagination of ceramic artists. Artisan dinnerware is hand-made and each piece exhibits its own unique characteristics. The artistic nature of this tableware is meant to be seen whether on your table or decorating your buffet.
What is Artisan Dinnerware
The real talent is exhibited in the artists exhaustive work developing artistic glazes. Some artisans use cobalt oxide and magnesium oxide to literally grow crystals in the glaze during kiln firing. The temperature and time the glaze is fired makes a big difference in the size of the crystals. Hand-painted dinnerware is another talent that is beautifully expressed on tableware. The glaze development is not as exhaustive but the delicate patterns require steady hands and the imagination to create designs that fit the dishes.
Artisan Inspired Dinnerware
Using the same skill and imagination, combined with modern manufacturing techniques, modern day dinnerware manufacturers create equally beautiful and unique tableware with the inherent durability of stoneware and porcelain.
Don’t be shy about enjoying the beauty of your artisan dinnerware. These inspired dinnerware designs are meant to be used everyday. Some of the newest designs may even deserve a place on your buffet for their decorative value.
D&V Fortessa Porcelain
A new design from D&V Fortessa is STON porcelain dinnerware. STON is available in two complementary colors, mist and twilight. They are designed to coordinate with each other so you can mix and match. STON DinnerwareWhat truly differentiates STON from other dinnerware patterns are the irregular edges, which emulate hand-made dishes and the rugged weathered look of stone. But beauty in this case is more than skin deep. D&V Fortessa can be found in the world’s premier hotels and resorts. STON continues this tradition of beauty and durability. STON dinnerware is made from porcelain, which is one of the strongest most durable dinnerware materials available.
Gibson Elite Reactive Glazes
Examples of Gibson Elite’s expertise are Althea and Volterra 16-piece stoneware dinnerware sets. If you look carefully no two pieces are exactly alike. Gibson Elite Althea Teal and Red Gibson Elite Volterra Gibson Elite specializes in producing wonderful stoneware dinnerware sets with reactive glazes. These glazes are formulated to produce reactions during the kiln firing resulting in varied and beautiful effects on your dinnerware. The final appearance of the glaze is dependent on firing temperature, glaze thickness and the composition of the stoneware body. The same glaze can look quite different on different clay bodies. Gibson also manufacturers reactive metallic glazes that originally only skilled artisans could produce.
